In an interview with OXM Bioware producer, Michael Gamble, has discussed the future plans for a Mass Effect continuation without Shepard.
Gamble discussed the sheer wealth of backstory available to them due to having developed an entire universe and just how all these stories could easily be told in future Mass Effect titles.
“Without going down any specific path, you can think of many, many different areas throughout the IP, throughout the history, where there are large wars to be won, large battles to be had, and a lot of development to be done around where these races came from, how they came about. We have so much to draw from.”
“We haven’t made a decision about whether we’ll do anything in the future, but if we were to do something, we just have a lot of information to choose from. If you boot up Mass Effect 3 and look through the codices you’ll see we have tonnes and tonnes of backstory. Obviously, for Mass Effect 3 it’s Shepard’s story and this is where Shepard’s story finishes, but the future is wide open for what we can possibly do.”
In an interview with GamerZines, Michael Gamble also advised players to keep hold of their Mass Effect 3 saves. He stated that “Obviously I can’t say anything, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea…”.
When questioned about how Gamble feels about the current next-gen console rumours flying about, his response was very positive. He believes that the work they’ve done with blending and integrating Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer and single player has already started them on the road to working with “a machine that more seamlessly blends your offline and online experiences” in future.
With the groundwork already in place and an epic legacy to work from, it could be possible that we’ll be seeing future Mass Effect titles as we move into the next generation of consoles.
