Gameplay footage for a cancelled Streets Of Rage title that was due for release via digital download has surfaced online.

Sean Noonan, a Level Designer at Ubisoft Montreal currently working on the highly anticipated Watch Dogs, tweeted “So it seems like one of my previous projects has leaked, as pretty as I remember”, along with a link to the video above.

An initial reboot of the popular arcade brawler series for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC was in development at Grin, but was cancelled due to financial issues that bankrupted the company. Ruffian Games, the team behind Crackdown 2, were also working on a reboot (which the footage above is from) but again, this never saw the light of day.

It’s a crying shame that this title never made it to consoles and PC as the gameplay footage is pretty stunning. It’s certainly not the sidescrolling brawler that we know and love, but as long as it features local co-op, I would definitely throw my cash at it.
